Haircut 101 is happy to report we are now offering the Bumble & Bumble ConcenSTRAIGHT product line, including a long-lasting Pro Smoothing Treatment as well as a shampoo, conditioner, and straight blow out balm. 

Bumble's breakthrough Pro smoothing treatment is formaldehyde, cysteine, and lye free making this product gentle and non-damaging to the hair.  The treatment is an in-salon service and will straighten, smooth, and soften hair for up to 30 shampoos.

To help maintain the Pro Smoothing Treatment, Bumble offers their first sulfate-free cleanser and light condition to create a smoother, silkier texture straight out of the shower adding shine & encouraging body and movement. This product is adequate for any hair type: curly, thick, frizzy, or just utterly unruly and unmanageable and is also safe on color treated hair.

To complete the smooth look, Bumble created Straight Blow Dry. This lightweight, heat-activated styling balm promotes straight, smooth, healthy-looking hair from shampoo to shampoo. ConcenSTRAIGHT technology helps maintain the results of the Pro Smoothing Treatment.

Bumble and Bumble

Bumble and Bumble is Haircut 101's exclusive hair care product.  We pride ourselves on carrying this prestigious line of shampoos, conditioners, foundations, styling products and finishing tools.  We started carrying the line about 9 years ago and haven't turned back since.  Every year, our stylists go to NYC for training at the Bb. Downtown Salon, for cutting, color, and even business classes.  Here is a little bit about the company and why we, as hairdressers love this stuff!!

Michael Gordon opened Bumble and Bumble, the salon, in 1977 in NYC on Hairdressers row.  Bb. was a no name salon and Michael Gordon was a no name stylist.  The name "Bumble and Bumble" raised eyebrows and the industry started to take notice of this.  It was only within a year that Bumble and Bumble was voted one of American Vogue's Top 10 Salons in NYC.  This was the beginning of Bumble's legacy of amazing hairdressers.  In 1988, Howard McLaren joined Bumble and brought the fascination for the straight razor, and developed a signature cutting style. 

In 1990, because of frustration with mediocre product lines, Bumble develops Brilliantine, their first product.  Throughout the rest of the nineties, Bb. develops a killer product line, networks across the nation and graces the covers of every fashion magazine in the world.  In the new millennium, Bb. launches Surf Spray.  Bb. U is opened in 2004 with 8 floors including, the salon floor, the cafe, education rooms, library, and the offices of all the employees, including the CEO of Bumble, Peter Lichtenthal.

In the past several years, Bb. has launched several new lines and just recently launched a professional straightening system.  Concen-Straight Pro Treatment is free of formaldehyde, cystine and lye.  There is also a take home system for the straightener, including a shampoo, conditioner and Straight Blow-dry.

At Haircut 101, we love Bumble and Bumble, maybe even a little too much.  But we stand by it, for sure...and you better believe that our staff has tried every product at least once.  In the next few weeks, we will be posting our favorites and how to use these amazing products.  If you have a favorite Bb. product, please let us know.  We would love to hear it!

Wedding Event!

Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock, NC is hosting a wedding show in November.  The Event will host local photographers, spas, catering businesses and salons for brides to become accqainted with.  Haircut 101 will be doing wedding styles, make up application and brow waxing to show our art to brides interested in getting married in the High Country.  We are very excited to be invited to participate in the event.  It should be a lovely weekend of brides, fashion shows, cocktails and cake!  You can check Meadowbrook's website for more information!

Haircut 101

Haircut 101 has been in business for almost 22 years.  That is amazing!  After all of these years, the place is still here, the music is bumping, the mirror ball is shining, hair is flying everywhere and everyone is having a good time.   Haircut 101 is located in a small mountain town where the air is crisp and the style is retro, vintage and all things recreated.  The salon has been through many wonderful hairdressers, a fantastic staff of front desk goddesses, too many haircuts to count and still, John Mena remains the go-to guy for your haircare needs.  John has trained so many hairdressers--Hair stylist that own there own salons, stylist that have been featured in fashion shows and photo shoots, stylist that will always go back to 101 and think ..."Wow, this is where my career began!"

We have all had our ups and downs, our moments when we thought we would never make it, and even moments when we question our talent and our passion for hairdressing, but I know that one of the biggest inspirations for all of us has been MENA!  He is crazy, fun, a perfectionist and a control freak, but...Haircut 101 has been here for 22 years!  He makes us all better hairdressers by expecting us to work harder, ultimately making us LOVE what we do.  So, cheers to Wild Man Mena, for teaching us all a little something about the HAIR!

As we embark on blogging, please forgive our writing skills for we are hairdressers.  We went to school to cut hair and I believe we should stick to that!  So, we will be posting How-To videos, Make up application methods, styling ideas, haircare management and product knowledge videos.  We want to share our craft with you, this is our love and we want to spread our love all around.  You are the canvas and with that we are able to create masterpieces.  

As the staff takes classes, goes on trips, learns anything new and meets interesting people, you will hear about it.  You will see pictures of our work, before-and-afters, new ideas, trends and concepts.  You never know, you may get a therapy session just for reading our blog :).  

We will run specials, have drawings and communicate with you about all the events the salon hosts.  You will be able to win prizes or services through the blog.  Not to mention, there will be pretty pictures of beautiful people!
