C is for...

CUTS!!  This was just too easy...this is what we do best.  We cut hair, and we love it.  

You wake up one morning.  You get ready for work or school or whatever.  Your hair is not cooperating.  You call 828.262.3324.  We CUT your hair.  All is right with the world.  Ok, ok...I'm kidding.  

But seriously, a good hair cut goes a long way.  Think of the times you want your hair cut...before family pictures, before the first day at school or any job, for an interview, for your grandmother, for your significant other, for YOU.  A new, fresh cut can turn your day around and give you a new look.  

A fresh cut will revive your color, give your hair volume and maintain your favorite style.  When growing your hair out you need to maintain healthy locks by getting a trim.  When your hair feels like "it just won't do anything" you need a cut!  All of the stylist have been trained in many aspects of cutting, from razor cutting to curly hair.  Bring in pictures of what you want and be honest with your stylist.  Tell them what you don't like, tell them what you do like.  Trust the stylist to give you the proper cut for you. Be honest with yourself as well...Are you going to style the cut the way it needs to be styled?  Are you going to maintain the style with regular trims?  Is this cut for you?  Most importantly, enjoy the experience.  From the time you walk in the door till the time you walk out, relax!  The shampoo is the best part, and let your stylist style your new 'do for you.  They can show you how to make your new haircut easy to live in.

B is for...

...Bumble and Bumble, Blow Outs, Bio Ionic, Bangs and so much more!  I couldn't decide what to go with so John says..."B is for Brushes."

A good boar bristle brush is imperative for healthy, shiny hair.  Brushing your hair every night, like Marsha Brady, will help distribute the natural oils in your hair evenly. This helps with regrowth, split ends, removing hair that is trying to shed and stimulates your scalp.  A happy scalp produces healthy hair.  

We carry several different lines of brushes and tools.  We have all sizes of round brushes, teasing brushes, oval brushes, paddle brushes and styling brushes which are all boar bristle, and a ceramic line called Bio Ionic.  Bio Ionic brushes are not boar bristle, they are made with Volcanic minerals that force moisture into the hair instead of removing all the moisture, resulting in shiny, beautiful, bouncy hair.  Boar bristle brushes smooth the cuticle down on the hair shaft better than any other material.  Several of the brushes also have nylon bristles mixed with the boar bristle.  The boar bristle brushes we carry are the Marilyn brush, Monroe brushes, Denman brushes and Creative brushes.

The ABC's of Haircut 101

Happy April Fool's Day!  I felt that today was the perfect day to being a new blog post and a new series of hair how-to's, funny remarks by our stylists, clients and ideas behind fabulous hair.  Since we are new to the blogger world, I thought we would begin again very simple...like with our ABC's!!  Check back tomorrow to see what "B" stands for!!

A is for ALL OVER COLOR!!

Haircut 101's basic color service is an all over color.  Although, it is anything but basic, our stylist will customize and mix the perfect shades for you.  All over color is applied from roots to ends to color all of your regrowth, grey hair and give you the tonal value and depth you desire.  At Haircut 101, we use Wella hair color.  Wella won "Favorite Permanent Hair Color" with Koleston Perfect, for the 2nd year in a row at the Behind the Chair's Stylist Choice Awards and "Favorite Bleach Lightener" with Wella's Blondor.

There are different application methods varying by stylist, but you will never be dissatisfied with this service.  Your favorite stylist will chose to use Permanent or Demi-permanent based on the condition of your hair and what type of coverage you need. But, please ladies and gents, do not be disillusioned by those box colors, the color never actually washes out of your hair.

Bumble & Bumble ConcenSTRAIGHT Line

Haircut 101 is happy to report we are now offering the Bumble & Bumble ConcenSTRAIGHT product line, including a long-lasting Pro Smoothing Treatment as well as a shampoo, conditioner, and straight blow out balm. 

Bumble's breakthrough Pro smoothing treatment is formaldehyde, cysteine, and lye free making this product gentle and non-damaging to the hair.  The treatment is an in-salon service and will straighten, smooth, and soften hair for up to 30 shampoos.

Bumble and Bumble

Bumble and Bumble is Haircut 101's exclusive hair care product.  We pride ourselves on carrying this prestigious line of shampoos, conditioners, foundations, styling products and finishing tools.  We started carrying the line about 9 years ago and haven't turned back since.  Every year, our stylists go to NYC for training at the Bb. Downtown Salon, for cutting, color, and even business classes.  Here is a little bit about the company and why we, as hairdressers love this stuff!!

Michael Gordon opened Bumble and Bumble, the salon, in 1977 in NYC on Hairdressers row.  Bb. was a no name salon and Michael Gordon was a no name stylist.  The name "Bumble and Bumble" raised eyebrows and the industry started to take notice of this.  It was only within a year that Bumble and Bumble was voted one of American Vogue's Top 10 Salons in NYC.  This was the beginning of Bumble's legacy of amazing hairdressers.  In 1988, Howard McLaren joined Bumble and brought the fascination for the straight razor, and developed a signature cutting style. 

In 1990, because of frustration with mediocre product lines, Bumble develops Brilliantine, their first product.  Throughout the rest of the nineties, Bb. develops a killer product line, networks across the nation and graces the covers of every fashion magazine in the world.  In the new millennium, Bb. launches Surf Spray.  Bb. U is opened in 2004 with 8 floors including, the salon floor, the cafe, education rooms, library, and the offices of all the employees, including the CEO of Bumble, Peter Lichtenthal.

In the past several years, Bb. has launched several new lines and just recently launched a professional straightening system.  Concen-Straight Pro Treatment is free of formaldehyde, cystine and lye.  There is also a take home system for the straightener, including a shampoo, conditioner and Straight Blow-dry.

Wedding Event!

Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock, NC is hosting a wedding show in November.  The Event will host local photographers, spas, catering businesses and salons for brides to become accqainted with.  Haircut 101 will be doing wedding styles, make up application and brow waxing to show our art to brides interested in getting married in the High Country.  We are very excited to be invited to participate in the event.  It should be a lovely weekend of brides, fashion shows, cocktails and cake!  You can check Meadowbrook's website for more information!
